The Music

Merkavah is a musical offering from a diverse assembly of talented musicians from Israel who draw on global influences to produce a passionate prayer for peace and unity.

From the artists: "Merkavah is our call for renewal and resacralization, drawing from the wellsprings of Israel. It is an invocation for the healing of the generations, of our families, and of ourselves through the transmission of Torah."

The Artists

The creators of Merkavah are a group called "Amen," lead by Gabriel Meyer and Amir Paiss (though the name "Amen" was chosen after the production of the CD, so you won't see it printed there). Most of the musicians involved with Merkavah hail from the internationally acclaimed multicultural Middle Eastern ensemble, Sheva, whose "Od Y'vo (Salaam)," which mixes Hebrew and Arabic in a musical prayer for peace, has become practically the anthem of Middle East peace - and peace in general -for people around the world.

The Charity

Some of the musicians behind Merkavah use more than just music (powerful as that is) to make peace; they are also involved in a nonprofit peacemaking organization called Sulha (an Arabic word meaning "reconciliation"), which organizes grassroots peacemaking events that draw on the power of the arts and the power of love to bring healing to the Middle East and to the world. Several thousand Arabs, Jews, and others attend each year, forging bonds that offer hope for a peaceful future in the Middle East.
